14 Day Fast: Day 2

Scripture:
“There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood…”
— Proverbs 6:16–17 (NASB)
Devotional:
Imagine someone putting a small crack in the foundation of a house. At first, it seems minor. But over time, water seeps in, the foundation shifts, and the house begins to lean and falter. That’s what lies do to the church. One false story, one piece of gossip, one repeated assumption left unrepented can cause an entire fellowship to fracture.
God does not mince words He hates certain things. Among them, a lying tongue is listed as an abomination. Why? Because lies unravel the very fabric of trust that holds the Body of Christ together. They infect relationships, distort truth, and produce division in the fellowship.
It could be a rumor we repeated without confirming, a narrative we chose to believe because it supported our perspective, or even something subtle like embellishing a story to make someone look worse and ourselves better. Whether intentional or unintentional, lies are seeds sown by the enemy, and when the church entertains them, we do more harm than good.
When we spread or entertain a false narrative, we do the enemy’s work within God’s house. Lies create suspicion, stifle unity, and make it harder for us to love one another well. Proverbs reminds us that God doesn’t just dislike this He finds it detestable.
Take time today to ask yourself:
Have I ever repeated something I wasn’t sure was true?
Have I contributed to a false idea about someone or something in this church?
Have I allowed a story or impression to live in my heart without verifying it in love?
If so, repent. Then go make it right confess it to the person you spoke to or about, and ask God to heal the harm that lie may have caused.
Takeaway for Today
Root out the lie. Replace it with truth. Let God restore the fellowship.
Prayer
Father, You are the God of truth, and in You there is no shadow or deceit. Forgive me for every lie I’ve repeated, believed, or entertained knowingly or unknowingly. I repent for the times I have harmed the Body by speaking without clarity or spreading narratives that did not edify. Cleanse my lips, purify my heart, and teach me to value truth the way You do. Help our church become a place where trust is protected and truth is practiced. May we be quick to listen, slow to speak, and diligent to confirm before we communicate. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
