14 Day Fast: Day 7

Scripture: “…and one who spreads strife among brothers.” — Proverbs 6:19b (NASB)
Devotional:
The writer of Proverbs lists seven things the Lord hates—and one of them is this: the one who “spreads strife among brothers.” God doesn’t just dislike division; He hates it. Because division cuts at the very heart of the gospel—the reconciliation of all people to God and one another through Christ.
We come from different places, different traditions, and different stories. That’s not the problem. Diversity isn’t division. The problem is when we demand that our preferences reign supreme. When it’s “my way or I’m pulling out.” When we stop being led by the Spirit and start being driven by our self.
The church isn’t built on your way, my way, or even our collective way. It’s built on His way. And His Spirit brings unity, not division. So we must ask ourselves: Have I allowed my pride, opinions, or need to control to create separation in the body? If so, it’s time to repent, release that grip, and return to the unity that Christ has already provided.
Today, examine your heart for any roots of division—big or small. Have you pulled away from someone over an unresolved issue? Have you contributed to conversations that divided rather than healed? Have you silently harbored resentment because a decision didn’t go your way?
Reach out to someone if needed. Pray about it. Let go of the tug. And pull in the direction of Christ together.
Takeaway for the Day
Unity is not found in agreement over everything, but in submission to the One who brings us together.
Prayer
Father,
We repent for the times we have caused or allowed division in Your body. Forgive us for putting our desires and preferences above Your desire for unity. Heal what we have broken. Restore what we have damaged. Teach us to follow the leading of Your Spirit over the leading of our flesh. Let love be louder than opinions, and unity stronger than pride. Help us let go of the need to be right and cling instead to what is righteous. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1 Corinthians 1:10 – “Now I exhort you… that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you…”
Romans 16:17 – “Keep your eye on those who cause dissensions… and turn away from them.”
